Complicated brain scan results

I am late posting this evening because I just got home from a busy day.  The MRI image shown here is from today’s scan.  (It is rough because this is just an enlarged portion of a photo I took, not from the scan itself.)  When I asked Dr. P if the results were good or bad, she answered with “complicated.”

We spent most of our time talking about a few images like this one.  The white area is tumor, unless it’s really just scarring from the radiation.  (???) It is located in the area in and bordering on my speech center, where much of the radiation was focused.  She does not see this as an indication of tumor growth, but she isn’t prepared to say clearly what it is.  She reminded me – several times – that she had warned me after the last scan that the first scan after radiation is often complicated to read.  The cavity left from the surgery and radiation is now very large, generally 15% of my brain overall.

She cautioned me not to be overly concerned about this scan, then went on to say she’d like to scan again in 8 weeks rather than waiting for the usual 12 or so.  I don’t have a date yet, but should by week’s end.  I’m running out of steam for tonight, but I promise to add more details on chemo alternatives in the next blog.

Thanks to all of you who check the blog and keep on praying for me.  I know it’s working.    This week I’m either going to start on my new year’s resolutions OR begin my bucket list.  Feel free to make suggestions.
