One week down

One week of radiation is done.  Only six to go.  After the first day of unexpected closeness with the mask, I got better at this.  If my energy stays up, I don’t feel worried about the future.  My digestive system is still reacting to the chemotherapy, but that could last the entire time.  I am in bed too much.  In fact, every time I walk by the bed it seems to call to me.

I had a productive meeting with the radiation oncologist this week.  We talked about my dosage, side effects, blood tests, hair loss and more.  He acknowledged that the speech center in my brain, where there is still tumor visible, is exactly where they are focusing the radiation.  He knows I don’t want to risk losing speech, but he needs to attack the tumor in order to reduce it.  Every few days they take X-rays before the radiation and have him look them over to make sure they are focusing precisely where he wants the attack before they go forward.  He is setting up a meeting for me with the senior dosimitrist so we can look at my overall radiation plan before they give me the copy.

I feel like these are good, talented people and I’m glad to have the Centegra Sage Cancer Center so close to home.
