I spent 2 ½ hours this morning at the Centegra Sage Cancer Center planning my radiation approach and schedule. Dr. Bugno, my radiation oncologist, is smart as a tack. We talked about how we could bump the risk/benefit ratio a little more toward benefit and what side effects I should expect (mostly hair loss and fatigue.) I will start the treatment program of roughly six weeks on Monday, Oct. 10th. I was able to get a 3:00pm standing appointment, which I hope will make it possible to work some days at Twisted Stem before it starts.
On the same day I start radiation, I also begin a new regime of chemotherapy. Fortunately I will take Temodar, about 1/4th the dosage I was taking for 5 days of every 28 days during the past 5 ½ years. Although the remaining tumor is now chemo-resistant, taking it will help the radiation succeed in reducing the tumor. Of course, like many cancer patients, I struggle with insurance. I just hung up from a conversation with them regarding this chemo prescription. The best I could get is that they will make a decision in the next 24 hours whether they will cover this cost. It is an extremely expensive medication, so please keep your fingers crossed.
First of all, how much profit does this insurance company make! I get so made at stuff like this.....we need a good liberal dose of socialism!
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well in that department and that you are able to feel peppy enough to work a bit at the shop!
Love you!
