I started taking my seven weeks of radiation and chemotherapy yesterday at the Sage Cancer Center in McHenry. People there are great. Shown here are Ben and Jennifer, standing with the radiation mask made earlier of my face. Their roles are to set me up for the treatment: meaning having me lay on the radiation table, bolting my head in that very closely fitting mask, conducting the treatment and getting me up and out of there. Like everyone, they were great. I’ll admit, it freaked me out yesterday as I was unprepared for how very tight the mask is – not even providing the room to blink an eyelash. But today I knew what to expect and I was much improved.
Tomorrow I meet with the Centegra social worker who will show me their wigs and hats. The American Cancer Society provides a free wig and hat to cancer patients during radiation and chemo. This sounded like a good idea after three attempts to find my wig from 5 yrs. ago didn’t produce anything. Why is it I have so much crap and nothing I actually need?
Thanks for your thoughts and care my friends.
Dorothy - So glad Dr. P. is part of your team. I hope you are doing well and that I will see you on Friday night - wig or no wig. You are an inspiration. Jo Beckwith
ReplyDeleteUm...that mask deal sounds really difficult. Glad the second day was better. At the end can it be used for the basis of an art piece????
